Differences in social communication style (such as preferring not to make eye contact or finding taking turns in conversation challenging)

-
Benefiting from clear, concrete and supported instructions
What to expect during a Speech and Language Assessment
A Speech and Language Assessment is carried out by a CORU-registered Speech & Language Therapist [SLT] and is the first step in gaining a clear picture of how your child communicates
It helps identify the supports and approaches, including speech and language therapy, that best align with their individual strengths
Enquire & book an assessment
Once your enquiry is received we will contact you and explain our assessment process, pricing and answer any initial queries you may have. If you wish to proceed, you will receive online questionnaires for you to complete and for your child’s teachers to complete where relevant.
In Clinic Speech and Language Assessment
A Speech & Language Assessment typically involves a mixture of structured and play based activities with the SLT. All diagnostic tools used follow best practice NICE guidelines.
For younger children, this often looks like play-based interaction and observation alongside conversation with you. For older children, more structured tasks may be included where appropriate. There will be time for you and the SLT to speak to share your concerns and ask questions. The assessment lasts up to 1.5 hours, often less for younger children.
Your child’s speech and language assessment Report and Feedback
Following the assessment, the Speech & Language Therapist prepares a detailed written report summarising their findings. Our reports are sector-leading and recognised by the HSE and education professionals nationwide. When the report is finalised, we will arrange an online feedback session where you can discuss the findings with the SLT. They will explain the report, answer your questions, and guide you through the recommended next steps, which may include speech and language therapy sessions, additional supports, or helpful resources.
