Autism Assessments
Navigating the early signs of autism can feel overwhelming. We provide expert autism assessments for children – offering clarity, early diagnosis, and a tailored plan for support.
Possible Signs of Autism
It’s normal to feel uncertain about whether an assessment is the right step. We’ll talk you through the signs of autism, listen to your concerns, and offer clear, professional advice based on your child’s individual needs.
We will inform you as to whether or not an autism assessment is clinically indicated. Autism presents differently in every child.
Some possible signs include:
- Social and communication differences (e.g. understanding social cues, people’s perspectives, boundaries and problem solving)
- Preferring to play alone or struggling with friendships
- Delayed language or repetitive speech patterns
- Repetitive physical movements (e.g. hand-flapping, rocking)
- Sensitivity to sounds, textures, or lights
- Strict routines and difficulty with change
- Strong focus on specific interests
- Difficulty managing emotions or anxiety
- Unusual reactions to sensory stimuli
- Repetitive behaviours and sensory sensitivities
How Autism Assessments Work
Autism assessments are carried out by our multidisciplinary team, including a Clinical, Educational or Counselling Psychologist, supported by a CORU-registered Occupational Therapist or Speech and Language Therapist.
The process includes:
- Clinical interviews with parents or caregivers
- Direct observation of your child
- Information gathering from family history, school reports, and structured scenarios
This comprehensive, evidence-based process ensures an accurate clinical diagnosis in line with best practice guidelines.
Diagnostic tools we use:
ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised)
A structured, in-depth interview with the child’s parent or guardian. It focuses on developmental concerns before 24 months and explores communication, social interaction, and restricted or repetitive behaviours. This may be completed in person or via video conferencing.
ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition)
A semi-structured, standardised assessment involving planned social scenarios to observe your child’s communication, social interaction, and play. The selected module is tailored to your child’s age and language level. A second clinician will attend the session to support observation. This comprehensive, evidence-based process ensures an accurate clinical diagnosis in line with best practice guidelines.
What You’ll Receive
After the assessment, you will receive a full comprehensive report with:
- A clear, evidence-based diagnosis or evaluation, following best practice NICE guidelines.
- Feedback session to review the results and address questions
- Personalised recommendations
- Guidance on relevant therapeutic supports
- Insights to support your child’s development at home and in school
If you’re concerned about your child’s development or want to better understand their needs, our team is here to help. Let’s take the next step together.
What to Expect from Our Assessment Services
A Step-by-Step Guide from Initial Enquiry to Diagnosis and Treatment
We’re a trusted HSE partner and the largest provider of private paediatric and adolescent assessments in Ireland. We’re here to give you peace of mind and a clear path forward.
Step 1: Initial Call with Our Experienced Team
Your journey starts with a complimentary call with our expert team. We’ll listen to your concerns and guide you toward the most suitable pathway, with expert advice tailored to your child’s individual profile of strengths and needs.
Step 2: Information Gathering
You’ll complete a case history form. If your child attends school or preschool, we’ll request a short report from them. If your child is homeschooled, we’ll seek insights from another trusted adult outside the home. This allows us to better understand your child’s strengths and needs
Step 3: Personalised Assessment
Your child will meet with our multidisciplinary team — which may include psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational or physiotherapists — depending on the need. We use HSE-recognised diagnostic tools and international best practice to ensure a thorough, personalised and accurate assessment.
Step 4: Diagnosis and Report
You will receive a clear diagnosis along with our detailed multi-disciplinary or uni-disciplinary report and personalised recommendations to help guide you through the next steps. Where applicable, you’ll meet with your clinician to review the results, ask questions, and plan any next steps — including support at home or in school. Be reassured that our diagnostic reports are recognised by both the HSE and education systems.
Step 5: Support Beyond Diagnosis
We don’t stop at diagnosis. Your family will be offered access to therapeutic support delivered by expert clinicians — including psychology, speech and language, and occupational therapy services designed to help your child thrive.

What Our Families Say
“We had a wonderful experience with Constellation Healthcare for our daughter’s autism diagnosis (age 3). From the kind admin staff to the therapists and psychologist, the whole team made us feel heard and supported. The psychologist was both knowledgeable and very kind in her manner, and we really appreciated the mix of in-person and online appointments, which gave us plenty of time to talk. The report was turned around quickly, written in a neuroaffirmative and reassuring way, which gave us confidence for our daughter’s future needs.”
“Wonderful and very neuro affirmative psychologist. Friendly, informative and child centered. He was just great.”
